Who We Are Grade: 2nd Dates of Planner Instruction 8/15 - 9/22 KEY CONCEPTS: Causation: Things do not just happen. There are causal relationships at work and actions have consequences. Perspective: Different perspectives lead to different interpretations, understandings and findings. Perspectives may be individual, group, cultural or disciplinary. Responsibility: People make choices based on their understandings, and the actions they take as a result do make a difference. Transdisciplinary Theme An inquiry into: Human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures WHAT’S HAPPENING… Approaches to Learning Central Idea Citizens use strategies to resolve conflicts in a community. different types of solutions to conflict. (Causation) our accountability and outcomes to self and others when solving a conflict.(Perspective) actions that can be taken to impact the community. What You Can Do With Your Child at Home
Students will strive to be: Communicators: Listen to opinions thoughtfully Principled: Take responsibility for actions Caring: Use different perspectives when problem solving Attitudes to show it: Cooperation, Respect, Tolerance, Empathy Their problem solving skills by, identifying problems throughout the school and providing multiple positive solutions which, they will present to their peers. Students should demonstrate: Success Criteria for This Unit Students will know how to: *Identify and explain conflict/resolution in written and verbal form. *Write sentences using correct sentence structure. *Identify and explain story elements (problem/solution). *Identify and apply positive character traits. *Ask and answer questions. Students will understand that: *They are a contributing member of a community. *All actions have an outcome that is either positive or negative. *They can problem solve using multiple strategies.
