Earth Observation Data for Ecosystem Monitoring
EODESM Within each of the 21 Protected Areas selected by EOPOTENTIAL, a large number of changes are occurring at any one time and over time. An awareness and understanding of the types and nature of change was inherent and essential to the development of the EODESM system. The EODESM system automatically classifies land cover from environmental variables according to the FAO Land Cover Classification System (LCCS-2) but also changes by comparing both classes and EVs for any time and time-separated period. Over 100 types of pre-defined change can be mapped based on accumulated evidence. Change in hydroperiod Hydroperiods generated from Sentinel data, Donana

LCCS classification, the Camargue
Changes in Camargue Extent and conditions of wetlands in terms of water quality and vegetation The LCCS classification of the Camargue is also an information (raster attribute table) that contains all information about the segment including land cover classes, changes and EVs (in cluding water quality and vegetation). The legend is highly detailed but can be summarized. Web-mapped image of change, the Camargue, with green representing a net gain and orange a net loss in annual hydro-period. LCCS classification, the Camargue EOESM can deliver consistent classifications of land cover and change through the Virtual Laboratory and will be freely available for public use, including by PA managers
