WHO: Recommendation from the Wilton Energy Commission WHAT: Installation of solar panels on the roofs of Miller Driscoll and Middlebrook and possibly the High School HOW: Solar arrays would be owned, installed and maintained by a solar vendor who would sell solar generated electricity to the Town for twenty years at fixed rates which are lower than current and expected electric rates WHY: Estimated electricity savings of $1.2 million to $2.3 million over the 20 years. Reduces the Town’s carbon footprint.

WHAT and HOW: Installation of solar panels on the roofs of Miller Driscoll and Middlebrook and possibly the High School Structural engineering study of the roofs to be performed to determine capacity Approvals to be obtained to ensure installation of arrays will not void the roofs’ warranties Solar vendor will be responsible for repairs and maintenance Installation of the panels and frames will only be performed while students are not in session Allowances have been made for cloudy days, snow days and night times. On sunny days the panels act like an umbrella and reduce the air conditioning requirement of the building

How: Solar arrays would be owned, installed and maintained by a solar vendor Vendor bids submitted through an RFP process Nine bids received Vendor to be selected based on bid price, expertise and financial viability The Town would have the option to purchase the arrays at the end of the 20 years or have the equipment removed at vendor’s expense If need be, equipment could be removed and reinstalled allowing for roof replacements

WHY: Estimated electricity savings of $1.2 million to $2.3 million over the 20 years. The town has been awarded credits from Eversource which enable us to proceed with installations on Miller Driscoll and Middlebrook. Estimated savings over the 20 years based on two highest ranked bids: Miller Driscoll: up to $1,000,000 Middlebrook: up to $600,000 The town will be applying for credits for the High School. Savings estimated to range from up to $700,000 depending on award level and vendor selected
