2 Background Conversations began in 2010 – 2011
Many leadership development programs but none specifically for unique needs of aspiring Higher Ed IT Leaders/CIOs Lori and Gayleen developed the draft outline in 2016 Input and validation from CUCCIO members CUCCIO members committed to sponsoring attendees in a PILOT CUCCIO active and retired members committed to participating in elements of the program In kind costs and effort for the Pilot year (current) to evaluate ongoing potential Lori

3 High level purpose Key Objective:
To develop and support the next cadre of IT leaders in the Canadian Higher Education community The value proposition: Delivering leadership skills content within the context of the Canadian higher education landscape Developing a community of future IT leaders in Canadian higher education Leveraging content from other sources, only create if needed Promoting and addressing effective leadership strategies for individuals to affect change and provide strategic value at their institutions Lori

4 Key principles Aimed at next level of IT Leadership as defined and nominated by current CUCCIO CIO/IT Leaders Supports Canadian IT community development – peer relationships Enhance career and leadership development within the Canadian higher education IT community Cost effective, affordable and leverage technology and in kind capabilities wherever possible Not intended to be all encompassing or advertised more broadly for general access Not intended to address basic management (i.e. administer & control) or specific technical skills Lori

5 Proposed delivery model
Content from CAUBO online program for first phase Current and past IT leaders/ CIOs will be play an integral role in content development and delivery – real world experience and mentorship Each module will require at least one lead facilitator and up to three individual content providers/presenters Content providers will share their experience on specific topics using case studies, examples, resource materials, etc. Regular on-line Zoom sessions – facilitated, full cohort Face-to-face sessions at the CUCCIO meetings and CANHEIT Gayleen

6 Attendee participation
Most of the program delivered online, with 3 ‘in person’ experiences On-line content and discussion forum will be provided via the CUCCIO Members Sharepoint site and SLACK (work in progress) A total of three modules in the program over one year – combined online zoom calls and offline activities Participants invited/required to attend the CUCCIO Meetings (3x) The face-to-face component of the program is seen as critical to not only the overall success of the program but also to the success of the participants. Support and commitment to attendance is required from the institution, the CIO and the participant. Gayleen

7 Core content across three semesters
Leadership in the Academy The context in which universities operate including history of universities, structure and governance, key stakeholders and so forth Based on CAUBO online program (partnership) IT Strategy and IT Governance Aligning business needs and organizational vision to develop and deliver a future IT vision (i.e. big picture thinking), how to facilitate prioritization and buy in from key stakeholders Leading institutional Change through Higher Ed IT understanding the principles of change management, relationship management, portfolio management and risk management the impact of campus IT on broader institutional change Gayleen

8 Pilot experience to date
Facilitated by Bob (Robert) Cook, retired CIO at University of Toronto 15 participants in the first round cohort from across 14 institutions across the country 6+ CIOs/IT leaders and other subject matter experts have participated in the delivery of content Importance of in person time for the cohort to gel and build relationships Technology has an impact on participation and satisfaction Gayleen
