Do you ever feel like other kids are pressuring you to do something you don’t want to do? Do other kids ever try to get you to dress like them, go where they go, do what they do—even things you know are wrong? That’s called “peer pressure.” The Bible talks about peer pressure. Let’s see what it has to say Can you think of some people in the bible who chose God’s way over other things. These people didn’t give in to the pressure that the people around them were making them feel. Do you ever feel like other kids are pressuring you to do something you don’t want to do? Do other kids ever try to get you to dress like them, go where they go, do what they do—even things you know are wrong? That’s called “peer pressure.” The Bible talks about peer pressure. Let’s see what it has to say

PEER PRESSURE often leads to bad decisions
Don’t allow yourself to be pressured into doing something – think for yourself Giving in to peer pressure can lead to tragic consequences Peer pressure often leads to bad decisions. It's in the Bible, “The king was grieved, but because of his oath, and because he didn’t want to back down in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders” (Matthew 14:9, TLB). Without thinking it through, King Herod promised Herodias’s daughter anything she asked for. She asked him to behead John the Baptist! Herod didn’t want to do it, but peer pressure caused him to make a terrible decision. He had John beheaded. Don’t allow yourself to be pressured by other kids—be honest and think for yourself. . We should think for ourselves and not let others influence us to do or say something we know is wrong. Giving in to peer pressure can lead to tragic consequences. It happened at the trial of Jesus. “But they [the crowd] shouted louder and louder for Jesus’ death, and their voices prevailed. So Pilate sentenced Jesus to die as they demanded” (Luke 23:23, 24, TLB).

What should you do when pressured by others?
What does the Bible tell you? Proverbs 4:14-16 2 Cor 6:8 Ex 23:2, 3 So what should you do when you feel pressured? One of the best ways to handle peer pressure is to simply turn away and leave if you’re feeling pressured to do something you don’t want to do. Try to avoid situations where others pressure you to follow them in doing wrong. Does the Bible have any other advice regarding peer pressure? It's in the Bible, “Don’t join mobs intent on evil. When on the witness stand, don’t be swayed in your testimony by the mood of the majority present, and do not slant your testimony in favor of a man just because he is poor” (Exodus 23:2, 3, TLB). The Bible says “Don’t do as the wicked do. Avoid their haunts—turn away, go somewhere else, for evil men don’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest unless they cause someone to stumble and fall” (Proverbs 4:14-16, TLB). The apostle Paul says, “We stand true to the Lord whether others honor us or despise us, whether they criticize us or commend us. We are honest, but they call us liars” (2 Corinthians 6:8, TLB). Determine to stand true to God and refuse to compromise with evil no matter what others around you are doing—or what they say about you. This is excellent advice.

Props: Play dough, gingerbread-man cookie cutter
and table. Preparation: Place the play dough and gingerbread-man cookie cutter on the table. Presentation (Hold a large clump of play dough in your hands and begin to shape it into a ball.) God has created you and I and He offers a great plan for our lives. Let’s say that this ball of play dough represents you and me, God’s creation. Your enemy would love to ruin that creation and he will try to attack you through others’ influencing you to do wrong. Maybe you’ve experienced peer pressure that says you have to listen to a certain kind of music to fit in. (Press your thumb into one side of the play dough ball.) The world says you have to wear certain clothes to be popular. (Press your thumb into the other side of the play dough ball.) The world says that you have to speak a certain way or participate in certain activities to belong. (Place the ball of play dough on the table and flatten it out.) Do you want the world to keep shaping you? Do you want to give into peer pressure and be just like everybody else? (Use the cookie cutter to cut a gingerbread-man figure from the flattened play dough and hold it up.) Do you want to be just another stamped-out, cookie-cutter person and miss out on all that God has for you? (Begin to roll the gingerbread-man figure into a ball.) Or, do want to become all that God created you to be? Let Him shape you and don’t give into peer pressure. God helps us overcome peer pressure.

Please help me to follow You and not worry about
Dear Jesus, Please help me to follow You and not worry about what my friends are doing. It’s not easy but it is what you call me to. I know You will bless me when I obey Your commands. Help me to Remember each day that You are in control. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Wanda: I will do God’s work in our world pretty much sums up our responsibilities as Christians. Being willing…doing God’s work…and going out into the world. What can we do today or this week to do God’s work? What can I do to make the world a better place? Read the prayer to the children, and then have them pray it if they want to by repeating the line after you..
