1 Fill in the “Your Expectations” and “2013 Movie” columns of the chart
Fill in the “Your Expectations” and “2013 Movie” columns of the chart. We will watch the 1974 version for you to fill that in once you have finished the other two. After finishing the chart you will fill in the bottom section.

2 Charting out the reunion
Several various events had to occur in order to Daisy and Gatsby to be reunited. Take the slips of all of the events that have happened to Daisy and Gatsby and order them correctly so that they end up happily together. Once you have them in order, take them out one-by-one and assess whether they still would’ve ended up together or not. Then, answer the following questions. What events could you take out that didn’t change the outcome? How many did change it? Why might Fitzgerald have worked so hard to create this elaborate and intricate story? How does he set up the structure of the story so that it is successful overall? (Think about the point of view, the writing style, the characters and their characteristics, etc.)

3 IRL Think about your life.
How many different events have happened to you to lead you to where you are today? Think about moving, changing schools, playing sports, having siblings, etc. Create a list of 8 events that have happened in your life that helped lead you to today. Then, take them out one by one and see how different your life would be from what it is. Did your story change?
