1 Top Five Reasons Las Virgenes MWD Needs WaterFix
Protecting Our Largest Water Supply: The distribution system for LVMWD is typically dependent on high-quality Northern California supplies. Sustaining Our Cities and More: Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Westlake Village along with surrounding unincorporated areas of L.A. County use LVMWD water. Supporting Local Business and Jobs: Reliable water supplies sustain 70,000 residents and local businesses. The communities in western Los Angeles County served by the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) would not exist if not for the supplies of imported water from Northern California. The reliability of this supply for Las Virgenes and all of Southern California is at risk due to pumping restrictions, deteriorating environmental conditions in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and an aging water system that was not designed to meet today’s challenges. State and federal agencies want to modernize this system through a project known as the California WaterFix that has both water delivery and ecosystem benefits. Here are five ways LVMWD customers would benefit if the project moves forward. Surviving Droughts: A modernized system could reliably capture water to refill reservoirs and groundwater banks along the water conveyance path between Northern California and LVMWD’s service area. Maintain Quality of Life: Whether it is the excellent local schools, the quiet neighborhoods or regional parks and recreation programs, it all starts with a supply of reliable, high-quality water.
