Who was Jim Crow? “Jim Crow” was a character (played by a white man dressed as a black man) in minstrel shows. He sang and mimicked stereotypical behavior of blacks – as a form of comedy.

The minstrel show was an American entertainment consisting of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music, performed by white people in blackface or, especially after the American Civil War, African Americans in blackface.
