2. Figure 1 miR-124 Positively Regulates Adult SVZ Neurogenesis
In a sagittal section of an adult mouse brain, adult neurogenesis occurs from the SVZ through the RMS, ultimately ending at the OB. miR-124 expression increases (red gradient) as the migratory differentiation cascade gives rise to neurons. miR-124 exerts its effect by targeting Sox9 and other repressors of neurogenesis. REST represses miR-124 expression in the SVZ progenitor pool.
