1 MANAGEMENT Skills: Delegation
Nalin And Josh

2 Definition of Delegation
Delegation is the transfer of authority and responsibility from a manager to an employee to carry out a specific task. Although the manager gives an employee authority and the responsibility the accountability remains with the manager.

3 Reasons for delegation
The manager who was initially given the task is already busy enough as it is and may not complete the task to the best of his ability or to his best effort. Manager cannot be bothered doing what he has been told to do so an employee gets forced into doing it. The employee may have a certain set of skills which will allow them to complete the task with efficiency and in a way the manager may not be able to.

4 Benefits to Delegation
If used correctly it can: Save time when delegated to one or more enthusiastic employees. Educate Staff on a managers roles Enable staff to learn new skills Lead to fresh ideas from the staff instead of the same manager doing all the tasks It can improve employee motivation as they feel included in the major decisions.

5 Must do’s for Delegation
The manager must ensure that clear communication is being used when passing the task onto someone else as the manager still retains full attainability for the final product. Providing the employees with a deadline to ensure it can be double checked by the manager it was initially given to.

6 Activity : Delegation Game
There are 4 types of people The C.E.O The Managers The Good Employees The Bad Employees The Bad employees are against everyone else. The aim of the game is eliminate all the other contestants which are the bad employees. Or if you are a bad employee to eliminate everyone else. At the beginning of the game I will hand out a card to everyone in the class. Do not show others who you are. At the beginning of the game. Everyone's eyes will be closed. The C.E.O alone will open his eyes and choose 2 managers unaware what position they are. IF you are the manager we will tap you whilst everyone's eyes are closed so that no one knows what role you have. Once we give you the manager card hide it from the others around you. The managers will then open there eyes and choose someone to give the task to. Unaware whether they are a good employee or a bad employee. Every day the bad employees open their eyes when everyone else's eyes are closed and choose someone to get in trouble and get fired. Every day the whole office choose who they think a bad employee is – the person with the most votes is fired. Repeat until all bad or all good employees are gone.

7 Every Round Must Everyone Close eyes
Bad employees Choose An employee to get rid of Open Eyes (except for employee that was chosen) Choose someone who they think is the bad employee (Remember added votes for manager and C.E.O Most votes gets fired. Repeat until completion
