Can you care too much?

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord. Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said: ‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace, just as you promised; because my eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared for all the nations to see, a light to enlighten the pagans and the glory of your people Israel.’

Watch me! Last week we had the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. This commemorates when Mary and Joseph would have presented Jesus to God at the temple and made an offering for him. It reminds us that Mary and Joseph looked out for Jesus and took care of him, just as many people look after and take care of us too. Discussion: Think about who takes care of you and who you take care of. What does it mean to be cared for and what difference can it make to your life? Take a look at the picture above. The homeless person is holding a mirror so that the person sees their own reflection. Discussion: Why do you think he has done this? What impact do you think this would have on the person passing by?

Can you care too much. Can you be too nice
Can you care too much? Can you be too nice? What is most important in how we live our lives? Jesus said “treat others as you wish to be treated” which is awesome in theory but difficult in practice. Which leads nicely to this weeks discussion: Is it right to always put the needs of others before your own?

You’re form group have been given a speech bubble where you can voice your opinion. Make it colourful as these will be displayed in the chapel. Write your form name and discussion question in the middle of the speech bubble. Neatly, take it in turns to write what you think. You might want to write a draft sentence and get it checked by your form tutor before writing it in the bubble. BE HONEST! Give your speech bubble to your form tutor who will pass it on to Vicki.
