1 10.1 Vocab Day 1 Grab a notes page from the back under Geometry on Wednesday Have notebook and homework out

2 Polyhedron Polyhedron: a solid formed by polygons that enclose a single region of space Regular Polyhedron: each face is enclosed by a regular polygon and each face is congruent and the faces meet at each vertex in exactly the same way *Classified by number of faces with an exception of tetrahedrons; a polyhedron with four faces Faces: the flat polygonal surfaces of a polyhedron Edge: A segment where two faces intersect Vertex: point of intersection of three or more edges Edge vertex

3 Prism Prism: a special type of polyhedron, with two faces called bases, that are congruent and parallel polygons The other faces are called lateral face, are parallelograms that connect the corresponding sides to the bases Lateral faces meet to form lateral edges *Classified by their bases

4 Right prism: a prism with rectangles as the lateral faces
Oblique prism: a prism that is NOT a right prism Altitude of a prism: is any perpendicular segment from one base to the plane of the other base *This is the height of the prism

5 Cylinder Cylinder: one solid with curved surface with two circles as bases that are congruent and parallel Axis: segment connecting center of bases Radius: radius to the base Right cylinder: axis is perpendicular to bases Oblique cylinder: a cylinder that is NOT a right cylinder Altitude of a cylinder: is any perpendicular segment from one base to the plane of the other base *This is the height of the prism

6 10.1 Vocab Day 2

7 Pyramid vertex Lateral face Lateral edge Pyramid: only one base and lateral faces all meet at common vertex *altitude is the perpendicular segment from vertex to the plane of the base

8 Cone: solid with curved surface, one base, and a vertex
Right cone: vertex to center of base is perpendicular Oblique cone: not a right cone vertex altitude radius base

9 Sphere Center Sphere: curved surface all points equal distance from the center radius

10 Hemisphere: exactly half of a sphere
Center Great circle: closes base of hemisphere radius
