Alignment in GWIPS-viz (Michel et al., 2014) of ribosome protected (RiboSeq: blue) and naked RNA (RNASeq: light blue) fragments along part of the E. coli genome encoding the copper efflux pump CopA. The dramatic decrease in the number of ribosome footprints occurs as a result of programmed ribosomal frameshifting into the −1 reading frame where a stop codon is immediately encountered, thus synthesizing the CopZ protein.
