1 Pre-crisis information / data at the community level
Community Engagement in Disaster Preparedness: Pre-crisis information / data at the community level Gil Francis Arevalo, Humanitarian Affairs Analyst, UN OCHA 21 February 2017

2 Topics: Mapping of information at the sub-national level: what do we know so far of the at-risk populations or vulnerable communities? How about key immediate needs of the affected communities prior to any emergency response or disaster? What’s the role of community engagement in mapping of information? How do we validate information? How do we share information?

3 Once the Disaster Impact Model has been used to estimate affected population figures and the overall people in need, and once the needs analysis has revealed the specific needs of people, it is possible to establish the total requirement. This is done by simply looking at the number of people in need multiplied by specific relief items/services. Note the expertise of cluster leads to apply activity/needs based costing modalities.

Was inclusive and consultative community participation observed in the process? Are the data accessible? Can these be shared within the CoP? Is there a need for a collective mapping?
