How does the Constitution protect the rights of individuals against government? The Constitution limits the power of government and protects civil rights and civil liberties through the provisions of the Bill of Rights and the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment.

How does the 1st Amendment protect the freedom of religion? The 1st Amendment protects the free exercise of religion, bans the government from establishing a religion, and provides for a general separation of church and state.

What are the limits on the guarantees of free speech and free press? No one is free to slander or libel another, to endanger public safety, to promote the violent overthrow of the government, to violate public standards of obscenity, or to make false advertising claims.
