Port aux Basques Welcome to Port aux Basques, Gateway to Newfoundland and Labrador! Large ferries make daily crossings from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Minutes away is the Codroy Valley with very fertile agricultural land. Let’s pick some bakeapples!

3 Let’s go for a ride on the Newfie Bullet!
The Wreckhouse Local people claim the Wreckhouse, just outside Port aux Basques, is the second windiest place in the world. Winds gust over 200 km/ hour. The Newfie Bullet, a Nfld. train, often had to wait for winds to die down. Let’s go for a ride on the Newfie Bullet!

4 Let’s fly a plane over Stephenville!
During World War 2, Harmon Field was the largest American air force base outside the United States and a major refueling stop for aircraft en route to Europe. The Harmon Air Force Base was operated by the U.S. Military from 1941 until 1966. Let’s fly a plane over Stephenville!

5 Corner Brook/ Marble Mountain
Located just outside of Corner Brook, Marble Mountain features some of the best skiing east of the Rockies. With an average annual snowfall of 16 feet, Marble is the place to be for amazing skiing and winter adventures. Let’s ski down Marble Mountain!

6 Let’s climb Gros Morne Mountain!
Within Gros Morne National Park are mountains, fjords, volcanic rock, boreal forests, arctic barrens, and an unusual outcropping of rock called the Tablelands. The dramatic landscape has earned Gros Morne National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. Let’s climb Gros Morne Mountain!

7 Let’s dig for artifacts!
Port aux Choix Port au Choix is a National Historic Site with one of the richest archeological finds in North America! Burial sites uncovered in the 1960's & 70's provide evidence of early settlers - from the Maritime Archaic Indians to the Groswater and Dorset Palaeoeskimos. Let’s dig for artifacts!

8 A Polar Bear was seen here
L’Anse aux Meadows In 1960, the remains of a Norse village from 1003 were discovered here by Helge and Anne Ingstad. L’Anse aux Meadows is the only known Viking site in North America outside of Greenland and was named a World Heritage site in 1978. A Polar Bear was seen here in April – Run!

9 Let’s go kayaking in Red Bay!
Whalers from the Basque region of Spain and France came to coastal Labrador during the 1500’s. Whale oil was valuable for lamp fuel, paints, and lubricants. Several Basque whaling ships were discovered and have been preserved at the National Historic Site. Let’s go kayaking in Red Bay!

10 Let’s swim across the Churchill River!
Churchill Falls Since 1970, the waters of the Churchill River in the Big Land of Labrador have been diverted into the nearby Churchill Falls hydroelectric power station. This power station has the second largest hydroelectric –generating capacity in North America. Let’s swim across the Churchill River!

11 Let’s go skating on the Exploits River!
Grand Falls- Windsor The Beothuk Indians lived here for almost 2000 years. They fished in the Exploits River and travelled inland during the winter in search of caribou. Their history is told in the Mary March Museum in Grand Falls. Let’s go skating on the Exploits River!

12 Let’s dance to music of Great Big Sea!
Gander During World War 2, Gander was a strategic post for the Royal Air Force Air Ferry Command en route to Europe In 2008, Gander celebrated its 50th anniversary as a town To celebrate, Great Big Sea played at their birthday bash. Let’s dance to music of Great Big Sea!

13 Saint-Pierre and Miquelon
The British and French fought for hundreds of years over these islands but the treaty of 1763 returned the islands back to France once and for all. For the next two hundred years, the main industry was the cod fishery. Let’s go cod jigging off Saint-Pierre!

14 Let’s row in the championship race!
St. John’s The oldest continuing sporting event in North America is the St. John’s Regatta. Dozens of teams row against one another in front of 50,000 spectators each year. This is a major focus of summer activities in the St. John's area. Let’s row in the championship race!
