Day of Atonement Only purification offering goat for people independently pointed to Christ’s sacrifice Bull and ram for priests because priests were faulty Burnt offering ram for laypeople added quantity (cf. Lev. 5:6-7)

Day of Atonement Day of Atonement boils down to tale of two goats:
Lord’s goat for laypeople—Christ Live goat for Azazel—someone else

Mysterious “Azazel” Person owning goat (Lev. 16:8)
“Purification ritual” (Lev.16:5), not offering to God Goat sent away from God with moral waste to Azazel” (v. 10) The Lord’s ENEMY!

Mysterious “Azazel” Atonement/purgation on goat: carrying sins from camp (v. 10) to source Basic, non-substitutionary atonement (cf. Num. 25:13; 35:33)

Mysterious “Azazel” Lord’s goat belonged to the Lord
Also represented Christ, the Lord (Jn. 8:58; 10:30) So goat belonging to Azazel would also represent him

Instigated Christ’s death Tempts Falsely accuses (Rev. 12:10; cf. Deut. 19:16-21)
