How does the HSCG Advocate for your business?
By maintaining a professional DC Advocate (Lobbyist) – since 2010 By attending meetings with Members of Congress By educating Members of Congress about the handcrafted soap & cosmetic industry. By writing letters to key Members, Committees and Agencies on the unique needs of the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry. By monitoring and influencing legislation aimed at the industry. By ensuring that any proposed legislation does not hurt the industry. By doing interviews with members of the Press to educate them on the impact proposed legislation would have on small business.

SB 1113 The Personal Care Products Safety Act
Small businesses with less than $500,000 in gross sales are exempt Small businesses that operate out of a personal residence with less than $1M in gross sales are exempt from the bill Small businesses with over $500K (or $1M for home business) and up to $2M in gross sales – will do a simplified registration with FDA, with no user fees. Small businesses with over $2M in gross sales will comply fully with the legislation.

HR 575 Cosmetic Modernization Amendments of 2017
Small Businesses with less than $1M in gross annual sales are exempt from the legislation.

Bill to be introduced by Senator Hatch
Small businesses with less than $1M in annual gross sales AND home based businesses are exempt from the legislation.

So what now? All three bills have until the end of this term of Congress to pass – January 2, Any bill that does not pass by this date is considered “dead” and must be reintroduced to be considered. This is the second version of both SB 1113 (Feinstein) and HR 575 (Sessions)

What can you do? Stay up to date on the HSCG advocacy efforts (website, blog, eNews) Participate in HSCG Advocacy Day Write letter(s) to your Members of Congress when prompted
