5 Sample #1: Macbeth as a Tragic Hero Macbeth was a true Shakespearean tragic hero. He had many noble qualities as well as several tragic flaws. He was a courageous, brave and good nobleman who was haunted by superstition, moral cowardice and an overwhelming ambition. The three points which contribute greatly to Macbeth’s degeneration are: the prophecy which was told to him by the witches, Lady Macbeth’s influence and manipulation, and finally Macbeth’s long time ambition which drove his desire to be king.
