J. Richard Suchman, originator of an inquiry teaching program
5
STUDENT-CENTERED APPROACH
6
STUDENT IS CREATING PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE BY QUESTIONING
7
Socrates – Test of Three
Is it true? Is it good? Is it useful?
8
INQUIRY "A seeking for truth, information or knowledge-seeking information by questioning"
9
Inquiry is not only developing questions, but also examining how these questions impact the world around them.
10
Thus, it is not just the students' world that they are concerned with, but also the
historical and cultural world. This is accomplished through their being active participants in their learning. This is done by first examining their passions and then exploring, through many forms of media, possible solutions and metaphorical representations. They begin to not only learn how to learn but also how they can impact the world around them.
11
Inquiry connects the known knowledge to the unknown
12
The reason that inquiry is so essential to the larger issue of school reform is that it has the potential to create a classroom environment that is more conducive to student learning

ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS AS YOU CAN THINK OF ON THE TOPIC OF... SHOPPING
16
USE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER What are your feelings about shopping? Is it a pleasure or a torture? Do you think that men and women have different feelings about shopping? Do you have different feelings about shopping for clothes, shoes, electronic gadgets and food? If you are buying an expensive item, do you compare prices at several shops and the internet? Some shops sell second-hand goods, have you ever used them? Have you ever bought something and then never really used it? What was it and why didn't you use it? When you shop is it customary to haggle in your country? Are you any good at haggling? Do you think people can become addicted to shopping? Are you more likely to use large retail chains of shops or independent shops/sole traders? What are the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of both styles of retailer?
