Famous Moun-tains Ximalaya (喜马拉雅), Himalayas
Wuyue (五岳), “Five Big Mountains”; Huangshan (黄山), “Yellow Mountain” Fojiaomingshan (佛教名山), “The Famous Buddhist Moutains”

Himala-yas The Himalayas are a mountain chain located at the border of China, India and Nepal. They are 2,400 KM long, with an average altitude of over 6,000 M. Amongst the chain is Mount Everest - the highest place on the earth.

Wuyue (五岳), “Five Big Moun-tains”
The Wuyue mountains consist of Taishan (泰山), Hengshan (恒山), Huashan (华山), Hengshan (衡山) and Songshan (嵩山). Wuyue, especially Taishan, are famous for having been used as a special location for emperors to pray to the sky.

Budd -hism Moun -tains Some mountains are famous for Buddhist traditions, such as temples. Many famous Buddhists have been to these mountains. The four most famous Buddhist mountains are: Wutaishan (五台山), Emeishan (峨眉山), Putuoshan (普陀山) and Jiuhuashan (九华山)
