Ecosystems are made up of several feeding levels Each trophic level may contain a variety of species.

Energy that enters each trophic level:
Mostly used to keep the organism alive Some is passed out as waste Some is stored in the organism’s tissues Available as food for organisms in the next trophic level.

Detritivores Feed at every trophic level
Consumers of dead plant/animal matter and animal waste. (Ex. Earthworms, beetles). Also include decomposers such as bacteria and fungi.
