3 Eye Protection: Selection
Safety Glasses Safety Goggles Safety glasses and goggles are the two main types of eye protection. ▼ Safety glasses either wrap around the face or have side shields. ▼ Safety goggles seal against the face and provide protection against flying particles and liquid chemicals. Be sure and choose the style appropriate for the job. Regular prescription glasses are not safety glasses. You can either wear safety glasses or goggles over your prescription glasses, or you can purchase prescription safety glasses. In addition, if you use contacts, you must still wear safety glasses. ▼

Z87 imprint Fit & comfort Scratch-resistant lenses Anti-fog coating When selecting safety glasses, consider the following: ▼ The frame or lens of your safety glasses must be stamped with the imprint “Z87”. This indicates that they meet the standards for impact resistance. ▼ Try on safety glasses and find a pair that fits and is comfortable. Adjustable temples will help you obtain a good fit. Other features to consider are: ▼ Scratch-resistant lenses and anti-fog coating ▼

Prescription glasses are NOT safety glasses! Options: Prescription safety glasses with side shields Safety goggles or glasses over regular glasses Your regular prescription glasses are NOT safety glasses! Each lens of prescription safety glasses will have a mark imprinted on it, indicating that it has been tested to meet industrial-strength impact resistance standards.▼ If you wear prescription glasses, you have two options: ▼ You can purchase prescription safety glasses with side shields, ▼ Or wear safety glasses or goggles over your regular prescription glasses. ▼ envirosafetyproducts.com

6 Eye & Face Protection: Selection
Face shields Welding helmets You might also need to use a face shield or welding helmet. ▼ Face shields protect the entire face from splashes and impact hazards such as flying fragments or particles. If the face shield does not have the Z87 imprint, then you must also wear safety glasses or goggles. ▼ Welding helmets protect your face and eyes from harmful radiant light, sparks and metal spatter. Lens shades range from depending on the intensity of the light from the process. You will learn more about this in the welding course. ▼

7 Care Clean your eye protection Check for damage
Store eye protection properly Take care of your eye protection. At the end of each day: Clean your eye protection. To prevent scratching the lenses, clean them with soap and water. Do not clean or dry them with your shirt – it may have particles on it that will scratch your lenses. Check your eye protection for damage. Store eye and face protection properly to protect the lenses from scratches and dirt. ▼
