The Day of Pentecost
3
Note: Many of these people were Gentile Proselytes to Judaism.
Note: The middle wall of partition was being broken down
4
Eph 2: For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
5
Note: It was an early hint of the future revealing of the mystery “body of Christ” which has yet to be revealed.
6
Eph 1:9-10 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: Eph 3:3-4 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
7
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
8
Note: This is a sarcastic statement as these critics knew these men were not drunkards. It does not give evidence to the fact that New Wine is an alcoholic beverage.
9
Note: Peter is known as the Apostle to the JEWS
10
Joe 2: And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
11
Note: Many denominations teach that the former and latter rain is a reference to Pentecost
Joe 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain….
12
1. Joel 2:21-27 speaks of the restoration of Israel and has nothing to do with the Church.
2. The “tongues” that are found in Acts 2:3-4 are not found in Joel 2. 3. The “daughters” who are supposed to prophecy in Joel 2:28….. 4. The “old men” who are supposed to “dream dreams” in Joel 2:28…..
13
5. The “young men” who are supposed to “see visions” in Joel 2:28….
6. The wonders of “blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke” of Joel 2:30…… 7. The sun/moon of Joel 2:31 do not turn “into darkness” (sun),“into blood” (moon)
14
The answer is simply that Peter thought the Lord was soon to return and was preaching a message on the Second Coming dealing with Daniels 70th week and the Day of the Lord. The Jews had not finished their rejection of the trinity yet
15
Note: Peter is about to give the Jews a lesson about how they missed some of the prophecies in the Old Testament concerning their Messiah whom they have crucified
16
Foreknowledge: Knowing a thing before it takes place
Predestination: Preordaining something to take place Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
17
Foreknowledge: Knowing a thing before it takes place
Predestination: Preordaining something to take place Rom 8: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
18
Psa 16:8-11 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
19
Isa 53:12 …… and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin….. Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
20
Eph 4:9-10 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
21
Sadly today there has been much talk about a supposed mistranslation of the word “hell” in Psalm 16:10 and Acts 2:27 which have led many teaching today that there is no literal hell.
22
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
23
Note: David believed the promise of God which Nathan the prophet gave to him in 2 Sam 7:8-13. This “throne” in v 30 is a direct reference to the “throne of David” found in Isa 9:7. Because David believed God and was himself a prophet (v 30) Peter is stating here that what has taken place here is in fulfillment of Psalm 16:10; and the disciples were witnesses (v 32) of it
24
The “this” in v 33 is the answer to the question found in v 12 that of Speaking in Tongues.
25
Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
26
This has nothing to do with Soul Sleep that some will try to teach and the doctrine of the general resurrection
27
1 David did not go UP at his death, he went DOWN into Abrahams Bosom (Luke 16.)
2 No man ascends up to heaven but He that came down from heaven (John 3:13.) 3 Men only ascend to heaven by the power of Jesus after His resurrection (Ps 68:18; Eph 4:8.) 4 The Old Testament Saints that were held in Abrahams Bosom were resurrected with Christ (Math 27:52-53) and taken to Heaven at some point after. This is the first of three raptures.
28
The complete fulfillment of David’s prophecy of Christ enemies becoming His “footstool” will be when Christ returns to Earth (Isa 66:1, Math 5:35) which is His footstool.
29
Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren…..
Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Heb 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren….. Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
30
The complete fulfillment of David’s prophecy of Christ enemies becoming His “footstool” will be when Christ returns to Earth (Isa 66:1, Math 5:35) which is His footstool. The last enemy that will be destroyed is Death
31
1Co 15: For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
