What caused the Confederation Riots in 1876?
L.O. I can use evidence to research the causes of the Confederation Riots I can prioritise the causes. Byde Mill, Barbados – remembered as the site of the outbreaks of the riots.

This proposal is said to be the trigger for riots in Barbados.
In 1876 the British Government proposed a policy to link Barbados with some of the neighbouring islands – Barbados and the Windward Islands were to be confederated (linked) This proposal is said to be the trigger for riots in Barbados. However, it is likely that this is not the only cause.

Your task: In groups you will be given a document relating to the Confederation riots. Read the document carefully and try to work out what the document tells you about the causes of the riots. Prepare a short presentation to teach the others in the class about your document.
