questioning and reflection is an important part of ensuring

5. Reflection
“The term ‘knowledge in action’ is knowledge we use intuitively in our work. It is embedded in what we do every day. However in order to move on in our learning, we need to become more conscious of this underlying knowledge. We need to move from intuitive knowledge to a conscious awareness of why we do what we do, to be more aware of the links between theory and practice.”

6. Schon 1983 Knowing-in-action
It refers to the kinds of knowledge we can only reveal in the way we carry out tasks and approach problems. We are unable to make it verbally explicit

7. Schon 1983 Reflection-in-action
This is the kind of reflection that occurs as a response to a surprise – where the expected outcome is outside of our knowing-in-action. Reflection-in-action is about challenging our assumptions It is about thinking again, in a new way, about a problem we have encountered.
