1 Discover your Library Loan Stars
Jennifer Hubbs - Kat Drennan-Scace - Who does reader’s advisory in their day to day work? What do you find to be some of the biggest challenges?

2 What is Loan Stars? Get lists at loanstars.ca
The 10 hottest books published monthly, as voted by library staff across Canada. Similar to LibraryReads in the US, the program allows librarians and library staff the chance to read new adult fiction and non-fiction books ahead of publication, and to recommend and vote for their top choices. It is a collaborative readers’ advisory service and marketing tool for library staff.

3 Who can be involved? This could be you!
Any employee of a Canadian library – public, educational, private or otherwise. You must sign up using a library staff . Flexible time commitment - if you’re pressed for time, you don’t have to vote every month

4 Who is behind this? We are grateful for the support of so many publishers, including PRH, SSC, House of Anansi, Hachette Canada, Second Story Press, Dundurn, ECW Press. There are some publishers who are not part of this program, including HarperCollins Canada, but most other Canadian publishers and distributors are connected with the program.

5 Sign up with CataList using your library email address.
Log into CataList and find new titles Request a copy either using Netgalley or through the publisher Start Reading! Vote for your favourites! Repeat! You can vote for as many titles as you like. Here are the steps it takes. I’m going to go over each step in more detail with a live demo, but here are the basics! Register for LoanStars with Catalist. Make sure you use your work address so we know you work in a Canadian library. Only titles available through Catalist are eligible, so if you do have an advanced copy from another source, make sure it’s eligible for the Loan Stars program. * Browse the list of upcoming titles * Request, read and vote We run contests occasionally, so the more you vote, the more you're eligible to win, too!
