POST-AP PSYCH PROJECT General Guidelines: Create a 5-10 minute presentation focusing on one or more related topics studied during the course of the school year → if working with a partner, your presentation should be closer to 10 minutes than 5 → both partners should speak for roughly the same amount of time → DO NOT read directly from slides
2
POST-AP PSYCH PROJECT ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES → your presentation may include multiple sources of information (depending on your research); for example, slides, recorded interviews, movie/video clips, handouts, etc. → as mentioned, your content needs to go deeper than what was covered in class and discussed in the textbook → this is NOT a straightforward lecture; you must present your topic through a specific lens…here are some examples of some potential lens you may use…
3
EXAMPLES OF PROJECT APPROACHES
Design and conduct an experiment that challenges a common-sense notion/understanding (i.e.; job interviews are an accurate assessment tool of a job candidate’s potential as an employee) → your experiment must clearly identify and operationally define the variables →your presentation must explain your experiment design, your methodology (both in theory and practice), your findings, your conclusions
4
EXAMPLES OF PROJECT APPROACHES
Choose a topic (treatment of depression) and research three recent news articles related to the topic → articles should be from a reputable news source (NY Times, The Atlantic, The Economist, Slate, etc.) and should be no more than three years old → your presentation should include an overview of your topic, concise yet thorough and accurate summaries of each article, and a summary conclusion
5
EXAMPLES OF PROJECT APPROACHES
Conduct personal interviews with family members, friends, neighbors related to a specific topic (romantic vs. companionate love) and compare results with what was learned in class → your presentation should include an overview of your topic → summaries of your interviews along with key quotes/insights should be included → your conclusion should be based on how well your subjects experiences mesh with what was presented in class
6
EXAMPLES OF PROJECT APPROACHES
Analyze a character/scene/plot from a novel or movie from a psychological perspective, focusing on a specific topic or related cluster of topics → explain both the topic/topics and how it relates to your specific novel/movie focus → you may use clips from the movie (or act out a scene from the story), but they should be relatively short and not constitute the majority of your presentation
7
EXAMPLES OF PROJECT APPROACHES
Analyze a common human process (movement, thought, emotion) and break it down into its component parts, explaining specifics in a more detailed manner than done in class
