JOURNAL 1 WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL/NOTEBOOK
ImagINE that you won 3 million dollars in the lottery last Friday. What would you do first? In what ways do you think your life would change? What would your long-term plans be? Write onE page describing how your life would change.

JOURNAL 2 Which would you rather have access to: a great education or a large sum of money? Why did you pick that option? Which do you think your classmates would choose? What about our society? Do we, as a nation, value education or wealth more? Provide examples.

JOURNAL 3 Write 5-7 sentences answering the following questions. Do you think people are naturally greedy? Why or how do you know? When is it bad to be greedy? When is it good to be greedy?

JOURNAL 4 How are Kino and his people oppressed? Do you think this is fair? Have you ever felt oppressed before? If so, when? If not, why do you think this is? Are there people in our society who are oppressed? How so?

JOURNAL 5 Step 1: If your house were to catch on fire, what is the one item you would want to save? It cannot be something living (pet or sibling). Example: I would save the Bible my grandmother gave me a few years before she died because there is a hand written note from her in it. Step 2: Below this item, write two to three sentences answering the question below. If you had to choose between the item in Step 1 and your favorite family member, who would you save?

Reflect on the choices that Kino and Juana made when they thought they were wealthy. Do you think that they made any bad choices? Which ones, and why? What would you have done differently? (1/2 page response) Think back to your journal entry about winning The lottery– Do you feel differently about your answer now that you have read Kino and Juana’s story? If so, why? (1/2 page response) Write at least one page in response to this journal prompt.
