1 Where am I going to High School?
What are my options?? What kind of school do I want to go to for the next FOUR years?

2 Public Schools Public schools are assigned to you by your DISTRICT.
This means that depending on where you live in the city of Worcester, you are assigned to one of the 4 public schools. The 4 public schools are: North High South High Burncoat Doherty If you are a high school junior or senior, you may be eligible to take courses free at area colleges. Assumption College, Becker College, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Quinsigamond Community College, MCPHS, and Worcester State College have opened courses to WPS students. Dual Enrollment lets students earn high school credit for college courses.

4 North High School

5 North Home of the polar bears! Colors are Black and Orange. North High is a brand new $90 million facility! Allied Health Program: CNA program, CPR certification, First Aid Certification, Health Sciences Academy School of Social Systems and Justice School of Technology and Business Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers College Partnerships with local colleges (Holy Cross, WSU, MCPHS, QCC: courses/credits) ROTC All sports Various clubs About 1,300 students

6 South

7 South South High Colonels! Colors are Red and White.
New construction on $185 million facility to begin in 2019! It will be big enough to include 3 new vocational charters! Automotive/diesel technology, culinary arts, and education. South currently has an automotive track that begins Junior Year (not a full charter as of yet) ROTC All sports Various clubs About 1,400 students

8 Burncoat

9 Burncoat Home of the Patriots! Colors are green and white.
Burncoat has an arts Magnet Program that students can apply for. You do not have to be in the district to apply. (Apply at PIC. It is like attending a school within a school.) ROTC All sports Various clubs About 1,100 students

10 Doherty

11 Doherty Home of the Highlanders! Colors are Burgundy and Gold.
Doherty has an Engineering and Technology Program that has a full Vocational Charter. This means you fill out a separate application and it is like attending a school within a school at Doherty with a strict Engineering focus. You do not have to be in the Doherty district to apply. After the South High Construction is complete, Doherty will be next (it will probably be after you graduate) All sports Various clubs About 1,500 students

12 Innovation Schools (Public)
UPCS and Claremont Academy Extremely small districts (Main South) Small class sizes Lottery to be accepted (apply at PIC, find out if you are in the district there or at the school itself) Partner with Clark University to take college courses while in HS and continue on at Clark upon graduation.

13 Private Schools Private schools are tuition based schools (you must pay to attend). Some schools are DAY schools (you attend during the day) and some are BOARDING schools (you have the option to live on campus for an additional rate $$$) These schools can be EXTREMELY expensive They offer financial aid and scholarships to help reduce costs There is a test you must take to get accepted (SSAT-we offer it here a couple Saturdays in fall and winter) Private schools are not OBLIGATED to follow IEP’s, they are not federally funded (they are not regulated by the Department of Education)

15 Bancroft Day School (no boarding option) Tuition is $38,000 annually
Application is required ($ & deadline!) SSAT is required, Student and parent visit, letters of recommendation Performing arts and visual arts, many clubs & activities All sports (?football) 450 students in grades K-12 About 13 students per class! Very rigorous college preparatory curriculum

17 Worcester Academy Day School and Boarding Option Available Tuition for Day school is $36, 582 annually If you choose to BOARD at the school your annual tuition will be 5-DAY BOARDERS $53, DAY BOARDERS $64,417 Application is required ($ & deadline!), campus tour and interview to follow SSAT is required, along with letters of recommendation Performing arts and visual arts 17 Sports and 58 clubs 605 students in grades K-12 About 13 students per class! Very rigorous college preparatory curriculum

18 Parochial Schools Tuition based (you must pay to attend)
They do offer financial aid Most schools require a fall entrance or placement exam (some may be an interview) You must register and accept your seat BEFORE you are eligible to apply for aid Religion is a requirement (classes and masses) while you attend (not a prerequisite) They are NOT OBLIGATED to follow IEP’s (they do not receive federal funds and are not regulated by the Department of Education) They are uniform schools

19 Holy Name

20 Holy Name Annual Tuition is $8,700 Placement exam in fall and spring
Scholarships are available (adopt a student program, $1,000 for a 90% or above on placement exam) and additional $ available from school after Financial aid from district 571 students All sports Various clubs and activities Blue and White..Napoleons (Naps)

21 St. Peter-Marian

22 St. Peter-Marian Tuition for 9th grade $9665
Placement exams in fall and winter Scholarships are available (adopt a student) Approx 450 students in the HS All sports Various clubs and activities Purple and white..Guardians

23 St. Mary’s

24 St. Mary’s Annual tuition $6500
They offer Seven Hills students $2,000 in aid annually in addition to financial aid No placement exam, application required Principal interview (we will transport) Very small school and class sizes, about 15 students per class Dual enrollment available in Jr. and Sr. Year with Assumption college (college courses and credits available) Various sports Clubs and activities offered and if you have an interest and want to start one you have the ability Colors are Red and White..Eagles

25 Notre Dame Academy

26 Notre Dame Academy All Girls Preparatory School
Annual tuition is $14,350 300 students (9:1 student teacher ratio) Scholarships and financial aid is available Entrance exam, personal essay, and letters of recommendation are required Sports, various clubs and activities Big/Little sister program Colors are Green and gold…Rebels

27 St. John’s

28 St. Johns HS All Boys preparatory High School in Shrewsbury
Annual Tuition is $14,050 894 students Scholarships and financial aid are available Entrance exam, application, recommendations required Strong Engineering and Robotics Program All sports, various clubs and activities Colors are Red and White…Pioneers

29 Vocational/Technical Schools
Application process to get into Public schools (no tuition, but may have fees depending on the tools you need to purchase) “Schools that work”: Students participate in both academics and choose a trade to focus on throughout their 4 years of study Graduate with a certification(s) in their technical area May choose to go on to college or work upon graduation Students usually participate in a co-op in senior year (work program, earning credits for working in the field)
