1 Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel
Objective: You will analyze steps for the wheel in order to imitate the procedure when you do it. DRILL: Title a spot “Wheel Notes”. Bring sketchbook to demo in back. Take out dishes or clay for a skull. Today you will finish sgrafitto, then create a skull??. Look at power point from last class. IF finished with both- look at VERB VESSEL lesson. 2 What tools do I need for the wheel?
Pot lifters not ribs Bowl for water Sponge Clay base Wire cutter Triangle tool Wood rib

3 Wheel Set up Get a stool Plug in Turn on switch
Pull wheel out from back of room/ use in back Get a stool Plug in Turn on switch Place foot pedal on your side.

Wedge clay Cone shape ‘Throw’ on wheel Center Open center Raise walls Finish shape and lip Cut off wheel

5 Supplies to get: Sponge Bowl of water. Stool to put water on. Chair
Wire tool Pot lifters Clay base Shaping tool.

8 Clean up for the Wheel Scrape wheel with wooden rib.
Cover wheel piece with bag. Store it. Scrape wheel with wooden rib. Sponge up ALL excess water. Wash floor. Dump clay in slip/ recycle bin. Dump water outside downstairs. Put wheel and stool in back of classroom.
