What is Science? “Aspirin reduces the intensity of pain in those with minor pain-related conditions” “Quartz crystals can help you get pregnant” What is the difference between these two claims? KLQ: How do we distinguish what is and what is not science?

What is Science? We have examples of what we would call SCIENCE, and what we would call PSEUDOSCIENCE, that is something that looks ‘Sciency’ but actually is not How then do we distinguish between these two categories of thing? (Remember, it cannot be simple true/false claims, as there can be claims that are scientific [e.g. Newton’s Relativity] that are also false) KLQ: How do we distinguish what is and what is not science?

Hippocrates, father of medicine, noticed that people with thumbs similar to that on the left tended to grab at their chest and fall over a lot We now know that Clubbing is caused by kinds of vasodilation that are associated with Heart disease, but just noticing the connection is enough to qualify as science KLQ: How do we distinguish what is and what is not science?
