1 Star Students 4/3-4/7 Literacy Calendar Birthdays None this week!
This week we will continue daily practice of our sight words. Please continue to support this at home. Our book of the week is “Sleeping Out” and our two new sight words are: “that & up”. In Reading Workshop students will begin buddy reading. They will be given a partner and then taught how to read with someone. They will practice reading next to each other, sharing a book, taking turns, and how to choose a book. In Writing Workshop students will continue to focus on the rules of Grammar. They are using the goal they set for themselves and focusing on it. We will also begin the last Unit of Study on Personal Narratives. In this unit, students will learn how authors select specific moments of their life to write about. We will spend a lot of time over the next few weeks learning how to select that moment. The unit will culminate with their own personal narrative. Math This week we will finish up Module 9 with a look at 2D shapes and their properties of corners and sides. We will then begin Module 10 which covers more subtraction, representing teen numbers as 10 and some ones, and more work with 2D shapes. For subtraction, students will be using the word “minus” and writing equations that represent a subtraction story. We will look back at teen numbers and how 16, for example, is 10 and 6 ones. We will be using ten frames and number racks to help students work with this concept. Finally, students will look again at 2D shapes and use small shapes to build larger ones. For example, they can use 2 squares to make a rectangle or 2 rectangles can make an L shape. Students will work with 2D shapes to build visual/spatial relationship skills. Star Students 4/3 Elizabeth 4/4 Alana 4/5 Desi 4/6 Josh 4/7 Nicky *Star student will read a book to the class.
