4 Activating Prior Knowledge
Activity Outcome We will create pictures of day and night to show the passing of time. Activating Prior Knowledge Watch as I show what is behind each shape. If you think the picture is of something that happens at night time, place your hands on your head. If you think it is of something that happens during the day, cross your arms. Vocabulary things that are noticed

5 Concept Development As time passes, the amount of light and the position2 of the Sun and Moon in the sky changes. Night Time Becoming night – no moon yet. 10 Guided Practice Activity Lesson
As time passes, the amount of light and the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky changes. Let’s follow these steps to create pictures that show the passing of time. Step 5: Carefully cut out each of the pictures and write your name on the back of each one. Step 6: Sequence the pictures in the correct order starting with the night time picture. Activity Lesson 10

11 Relevance As time passes, the amount of light and the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky changes. By observing the sky and what you can see in it, you can tell what part of the day and or night it is. It is important to know when it will get darker or lighter and when the sun will be at its brightest and hottest. Knowing these things helps you to make decisions about where you should be, what you should be doing, as well as what is happening around you in your environment. 11

12 Closure As time passes, the amount of light and the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky changes. As time passes Pair Share Can you work out how many days have passed? Could our sequence start in the sunrise or at midday? 12
