Finish Info Sheet paragraph resp. (turn in info sheet, keep para’s) “A Boy Named Sue” – listen/lyrics – life lesson? “10 Things I Know” / Personal Narrative Essay Complete “10 Things” list if did not Planning Organizer - review Read 1-2 ex.’s/annotate in group – qualities of personal narrative Choose your top three life lessons from your list Freewrite/rough plan your backstory for each

3 Freewrite Starters Choose THREE “I Know” life belief statements from your list of ten; write each one down individually and leave room to write. Freewrite the specific story details that support each of these three truths for you (half a page each). DO not write a paragraph – just details! Take a few minutes and write without stopping. Write the details about the story connected with this “I Know” life belief; start where the story takes place. Describe this place in writing. What do you SEE? HEAR? Taste? Smell? FEEL? Write about the people who will be in your narrative. Think about the way each one looks, acts, and speaks. Conversation or dialogue is a good way to draw your readers into the action. List the main events of the narrative along a timeline.

6 Journal Writing Guidelines
Loose leaf paper Name, date, period at top Restate the question in your response 5-10 complete, thoughtful sentences OR 15 minute write (extended); this is a few paragraphs or front of a page Read through once to proofread for errors

7 Article of the Week Assignment (discuss on Thurs, 8/30)
Review activity and procedures As class/on devices, review: Online resource (posted) – review location on our BRHS class page Template instructions Annotation bookmark Distribute AOW #1 and discuss (may work on at end of block) AOW Article #1 – “Half of Teens Think They’re Addicted to Their Smartphones”. Must include template with annotated article and response to questions (loose leaf stapled to article).
