Most colleges require a college admission test for admission ACCUPLACER – (RCTC) SAT I – 4 Year Colleges SAT II - Used in conjunction with SAT I ACT – 4 Year Colleges ASVAB - Military

ACT 11th GRADE ACT – All public high schools required to provide an opportunity for all 11th and/or 12th grader one FREE ACT test during school year 2016/17. February 28, 2017 (Tuesday) Make-up – March 21, 2017(Tuesday) Scores can be used for college admissions All testing accommodations must be approved through ACT prior to testing See your case manager or counselor for more details

IN GENERAL, WHEN DO I TAKE COLLEGE ADMISSION TESTS?
ACT – Junior Year February – $Fee for Saturday test February 28 – All juniors will have opportunity to test at JM during school day – NO FEE! September /October – $Fee – Typically seniors December - $Fee – Typically seniors or juniors on accelerated math path Seniors taking later than October, will not meet many college deadline admission dates (Example: University of MN) – All materials need to be submitted by December 15.

Continued… SAT I – Junior Year May or June and fall of senior year

ACT vs. SAT The redesigned SAT (March 1, 2016) IS more similar to that of the ACT than ever before. The changes to the SAT have eliminated many of the two tests' major differences in both style and content. Nonetheless, there remain some important variations between the tests—some long-standing and some newly introduced.

ACT vs. SAT ACT - Scoring SAT - Scoring Scores 1 - 36
ACT Writing - A separate score, on a scale of 2-12 Sub cores scored across multiple domains: Ideas and Analysis, Development and Support, Organization, and Language Use and Conventions. Each of the sub scores will be between 2 and 12. scale No more wrong answer penalty The essay will be given three different scores and no longer affects your total score Lots of sub scores.

Math: 60 questions, 60 min Reading: 40 questions, 35 min Science: 40 questions, 35 min Optional writing: 1 prompt, 40 min (was 30) Reading: 52 questions, 65 minutes Writing and Language: 44 questions, 35 minutes Math: no calculator—20 questions, 25 min; with calculator—38 questions, 55 min Optional essay: 1 prompt, 50 min

College level classes verse remedial classes If ACT scores are high enough, ACCUPLACER isn’t needed for course placement See counselor for cut off scores Make sure ACT scores are sent to RCTC if thinking PSEO or attending RCTC after high school No charge for test

Free Practice Tests PSAT ACT SAT ASVAB ACCUPLACER
Advanced Placement (AP) Online Khan Academy – Official site for PSAT and SAT After receiving their PSAT/NMSQT scores, they will receive a unique SAT study plan based on their performance. Khan Academy practice can also be used to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT® because of the close alignment of the tests (khanacademy.org/sat).

FREE PRACTICE and ONLINE COURSES ON MCIS
Students must log into their MCIS account to access testing practice Juniors did this during an English III class the last week of September
