See as movie as being a visual drama.
Complete the anticipation guide to the movie.
Introduce the essay plan and how you will write about the movie.

2. Complete the anticipation guide – agree, disagree or question the 10 statements. Write what you think/know the movie will be about.
We’re going to watch the movie twice – taking notes and doing exercises along the way.

3. School of Rock Project - Essay
In this film many characters change by becoming more confident. Choose a character from the film and show how he or she changes throughout the film.
300 words
Focus on character dialogue (what you hear), mise-en-scene (what you see), and key moments for evidence.
We shall watch the movie twice, giving you two chances to gather evidence for your project.
I suggest you take notes during the first viewing, plan the essay out this weekend and start writing next week. Due next Friday.

4. Paragraph 1:
Introduce the reader of your essay to the film you are going to be writing about and tell them what the essay will be about.
Remember to include;
The name of the film (School of Rock) and the director (Richard Linklater)
Reword the question to explain what the essay is going to be about.
Mention what character you are choosing and why you chose him/her.
Mention what kind of evidence you will use (dialogue, mise-en-scene and key moments).

5. Paragraph 2:
This is where you tell the reader of your essay in a few words what the film is about (plot summary).
Remember to;
Explain what the film is about in your own words. (Think of how you would describe this film to your family or friends).
This paragraph should be no longer than seven sentences. Remember it must be brief.
Do not put any quotes or evidence into this paragraph of your essay.

6. Paragraph 3:
Here is where the body of the essay begins. This paragraph should focus on what your chosen character is like at the beginning of the film. You should remember to:
Use important words from the question to begin this paragraph and introduce what you shall be discussing. (These important words might be ‘character change.’)
You should then follow this introduction by providing some evidence.
Once you have provided your essay with the evidence that shows what the character was like in the beginning of the film you must explain why you have chosen this evidence. You should then tell your reader why it was successful in explaining what your chosen character was like in the beginning of the film.

7. Paragraph 4:
This paragraph should tell your reader when we first notice a change in your chosen character. You should remember to include;
An introductory sentence using your important words from the question.
Evidence to show the reader where in the film we first notice this change.
You should then explain your evidence and decide whether this was a good example of noticing a slight change in your chosen character.

8. Paragraph 5:
This is the paragraph where you should explain where the character of your choice has noticed that they are changing. You should remember to;
Use important words from the question in your introductory sentence.
Provide appropriate evidence from the film.
Explain your evidence. Is it a good example of showing the reader of your essay how the character of your choice has noticed that they are changing.

9. Paragraph 6:
In this paragraph you should show what your chosen character is like by the end of the film (How have they changed? Have they changed for the better?).
In this paragraph you should;
Introduce what you shall discuss in this paragraph (remembering to include important words from the question).
Provide suitable evidence from the film.
Then you should explain what this evidence suggests. Is it successful in showing how the character has changed completely for the better or worse?

10. Paragraph 6:
Congratulations! This is your final paragraph and should sum up all your evidence; such as has the character changed? Have they changed for the better or worse? What exactly is it that has changed about them?
You should include;
The name of the film (School of Rock) and the director (Richard Linklater)
Reword the question to explain what the essay was about.
Mention what evidence you focused on…….
Has the character changed and if so what was the change and was it for the better?
