What are some of your favorite movies and why? When and where did movies start being produced? How has the technology used by movies changed over time? What are some of the highest grossing/most successful movies of all time? What are the biggest and most popular genres in film? Aside from the US, what country produces the highest budget and most successful movies? Why are movies considered an important part of culture and globalization?

4 Film facts Movies were first introduced in the 1890s and were silent, black and white, and under a minute in length Originally France and Italy produced many of the most popular movies. However, in WWI (the 1920’s), their productivity declined sharply and Hollywood became the global center for film production, producing as much as 82% of films worldwide Sound was added to film in 1927, and much of the film from this era is referred to as “talkies,” highlighting the huge impact that sound had on the art form

In your new unit 3 groups Share your interests and background with movies and answer the following What genre does your group represent? What is every group member’s favorite movie within this genre? What criteria do you think are most important for evaluating movies in this genre? What are 3 movies you would suggest for us to review in this genre? (Must have been released in the last year and available to watch in English)

9 Homework Blog entry 6 We have now finished the second of our four units in this course. Take a few minutes to reflect on the most important things you learned in unit 2. You may wish to consider the following: What did you learn in Unit 2? How did unit 2 compare to unit 1? Did you find anything particularly difficult or easy? How has this compared to writing you have done in the past? How will your new knowledge shape your future writing experiences? This is the most important question, and I encourage you to think about your major and future career. Note: Your goal here is to think about what you have learned and how you can apply it to your writing in the future. You are NOT listing concepts to prove that you learned them.
