2 Color Depends on light, because it is made of light
Color Depends on light, because it is made of light. There must be light for us to see color.  Color Spectrum = ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)

3  Color has three properties:
1. Hue The name of a color. 2. Intensity The purity of the hue. 3. Value The lightness or darkness of a hue. Tint - Add white to a color to make it lighter. Shade - Add black to a color to make it darker.

4 COLOR GROUPS Hues are organized by group. Primary - Red, Yellow, Blue are naturally occurring and not created by mixing. Secondary - Orange, Green, Violet are created by mixing two primary colors together.

5

6 Intermediate/Tertiary – These hues are created by mixing a primary with a secondary. Yellow-Green, Yellow-Orange, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, Red-Violet, Red-Orange Neutral – Colors such as Black, White, Grey, or Brown go with any color.

7 COLOR SCHEMES Combinations of colors create color schemes. Warm – Like the sun. Red, Yellow, Orange Cool – Like snow and water. Blue, Green, Violet Complimentary – Colors directly opposite one another on the color wheel. Red/Green, Orange/Blue, Yellow, Violet

8

9 Monochromatic - Tints and shades of one hue.
Analagous - Three colors right next to one another on the color wheel, such as: red-orange, orange, and yellow-orange. Triad – Any three colors spaced at equal distance on the color wheel. Primary and Secondary colors.

10 Activity Your goal for the day is to demonstrate your knowledge of the color wheel, to identify the different emotions associated with different colors and explain how color is a factor in everyday life. Draw an image that shows a creative cycle (not just a circle or wheel). With a pencil, label the different parts of the color wheel so you won’t make mistakes once you start painting. Use your notes for this. PAINT IT UP!

12 Personal Color Reflections
Writing exercise Personal Color Reflections Identify 3 different colors that you associate with yourself. In a well-developed 2-3 paragraph response, explain why you specifically like/relate to those colors. Non-Example: I like blue. Blue is a nice color. My room is blue and I like it. I’m my own person so don’t tell me what to do.

13 Rubric Overall: 30 pts All 12 colors identified: 12 pts. Creative Representation: 3 pts. 2-3 paragraph color analysis: 15 pts. Being able to discuss the purpose and function of color in everyday society…priceless…
