Praying with a view towards:
God Reverence – verse 9 (Acts 4:24; 17:24) “Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” A solemn address to our God as “our Father” … Romans 8:14-17; 1 Peter 1:17 Whose dwelling place is “in heaven.” 1 Kings 8:30; 2 Chronicles 30:27 “Hallowed be Your name” – the name of Jehovah God is to be holy and spoken reverently. Psalms 99:1-3 Children of God – 2 Cor. 6:18; 1 John 3:1-2 – Jeremiah 3:18-19 “Our Father in heaven” – God’s people were recognized in the OT as servants, under the law of Christ as children.

God God’s kingdom – verse10 (Colossians 1:13) “Your kingdom come …” At the time Jesus spoke, the kingdom was “at hand.” Matthew 4:17; Mark 9:1 The kingdom has now been established. Colossians 1:13; Hebrews 12:28; Revelation 1:5-6 What is our prayer today for God’s kingdom?

God Humility towards the will of God – verse 10 (Matthew 26:39-42; John 6:38-40) “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” Pray that all men everywhere will: Study and know God’s will Practice God’s will Teach God’s will

Self Contentment, dependence and trust – verse 11 (Philippians 4:11-12; 1 Timothy 6:8; Proverbs 30:8) “Give us this day our daily bread.” That which we need – not wants. God wants us to depend on Him daily. Exodus 16:4, 16-21 Note the context that follows in verses

Self Our past sin - forgiveness – verse 12, (1 John 1:9) “Forgive us our debts (“sins”; Luke 11:4), as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Psalms 130:1-4; 25:18; Ephesians 4:32; Matthew 18:21; 1 John 1:8-10

Self Avoiding future sin – verse 13 (1 Corinthians 10:13; Romans 13:14) “And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil.” What is our role? Proverbs 4:10-15

Praying with a view towards:
Others The sins of others – verses 12, 14-15 Luke 23:34; Acts 8:24; James 5:16 – do we pray for the forgiveness of others; even our enemies? God God’s glory – verse 13 (1 Timothy 6:15- 16; Luke 17:15-18)
