MAIN POINT: There are two functional components of sperm
MAIN POINT: There are two functional components of sperm. The head contains acrosomal enzymes that degrade the zona pellucida enveloping the egg and a tail for motility through the lubricious environment. Downloaded from: StudentConsult (on 20 January :05 PM) © 2005 Elsevier

MAIN POINT: Sperm are made in the seminiferous tubules and stored in the epididymis until ejaculation in which they travel through the vas deferens.

Seminiferous tubule SLIDE WORK: Spermatids are the smallest, most condensed (vibrant purple under microscope). Seminiferous tubules are the vascularized balls encompassing the Sertoli cells, spermatogonia, etc. Leydig cells lie in the interstitial space in between the seminiferous tubules.

SLIDE WORK: Primary follicles are the small, translucent circles, while the mature follicles (not shown here) are large and multicellular.
