Formation of the oocytes
and the follicles. This takes place during the foetal stage

Phase 1. During the life of the embryo
The germ cells divide and grow, transforming into oocytes. These are surrounded by other cells, called follicle cells, which form the follicle. Development is then halted until puberty. The follicle cells feed the oocyte and produce oestrogens, which are female sexual hormones.

Phase 2. From puberty on wards
After puberty, approximately every 28 days. In this phase, the follicle grows and the egg in it matures and leaves the ovary; this process is called ovulation.
Maturation of the follicle and the oocyte.
This takes place once a month after puberty.
