2 That have their dated hours, To breathe their momentary sweets & go.
What is beauty? —Not the show of shapely limbs and features. —No; These are but flowers That have their dated hours, To breathe their momentary sweets & go. 'Tis the stainless soul within That outshines the fairest skin.

3 And many a woman possesses it Tho' 'tis oft a different kind
There is only one kind of beauty That can transcend all time. And many a woman possesses it Tho' 'tis oft a different kind Than the beauty many speak of That will quickly catch the eye: The shapely limbs and features That make plain women sigh.

4 It's the beauty of the spirit That lights the very eyes,
And transforms a simple woman Into beautiful and wise.

5 'Tis in women with true warmth and charm
That are interested in others. The women who forget themselves And the ones that make good mothers.

6 Those who accept each stage of life With grace and seek His heights—
These have the lasting beauty, That lives on and never dies.

7 Some people have things pretty mixed up
Some people have things pretty mixed up. They spend so much time and energy trying to perfect their bodies and make themselves beautiful, but they neglect their inner selves, the unique and beautiful spirits God gave them. They are foolish and short-sighted because in time their bodies, their mere outer covers, will be no more. Then all the excessive time they spent on their appearance will have been wasted.

8 True Beauty... … is, of course, the beauty of the spirit that lights the eyes and transforms even a plain woman into a beautiful one. Women with wit, charm, and warmth, who are interested in others and forget themselves, and who accept each stage of life gracefully, are the lasting beauties of this World—and the happiest.
