APPLICATION CHECKLIST 1) Create an MCPS Careers Profile 2) Apply to either AP or ASA eligibility pool--resume lists classroom and leadership experiences 3) Attach evidence of completed coursework Admin I (AP only) and OAT 1 4) Attach evidence of Future Administrators Workshop (FAW) or refresher (AP only) 5) Submit three recommendations 6) Complete written assessment (AP only) 7) Interview (AP only)

EXPERIENCEAP AND ASA 5 Minimum 5 years successful teaching or counseling, PPW, or psychology experience Minimum 1 year within MCPS 2 Included in, or in addition to, years of teaching, candidates must have 2 years of: School-based leadership experience OR Assistant school administrator experience OR Central services administrator/instructional specialist experience

EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE ( CONTINUED ) Teacher leadership is not limited to an actual leadership position within the school Teacher leadership experiences may include, but are not limited to: Providing professional development to other teachers Developing curriculum and programs

Administrative Coursework Requirement Jan. 30, 2013 Must be completed by Jan. 30, 2013 Administrative and Supervisory Certificate (Admin I)AP Pool only Observing and Analyzing Teaching I (OAT 1)AP and ASA Pool OAT 1 refresher is provided for those who completed OAT 1 more than three years before application

Future Administrators Workshop Requirement (FAW) For the AP Pool only, If not currently an administrators, complete the full-length FAW before applying to AP Pool If a current administrator, take a 1-day FAW refresher designed for your needs Submit certificate showing completion of FAW or the refresher

Minimum of 3 recommendations from principals/supervisors At least one recommendation from current, direct supervisor/principal Recommendation forms will be available on the MCPS website RECOMMENDATIONSAP and ASA Pools

For the AP Pool only, Required: 1-hour written assessment to be completed at OHRD Writing prompts include typical AP scenarios Writing is evaluated on the following: Following directions Problem-solving skills Language, mechanics & tone WRITTEN ASSESSMENT

Minimum score of 20 out of possible 25 points is required Each written response will be scored by at least two independent scorers. A third scorer may be used if necessary WRITTEN ASSESSMENT WRITTEN ASSESSMENT (CONTINUED)

INTERVIEWAP Only Once entry requirements are met, qualified candidates will be invited to interview for AP Pool Panel of principals/directors will conduct interviews Scoring rubric will be used during interview Candidates are encouraged to bring a portfolio of work A satisfactory review from this panel will be the final step in the approval process

If selected into the AP or ASA Eligibility Pool, you will receive written notification from OHRD of acceptance If selected into the AP or ASA Eligibility Pools, you may: Apply for advertised vacancies Receive request-for-interview calls from principals and receive a call from the principal with an offer YOUVE BEEN SELECTED!

If selected to fill an AP or ASA vacancy, selection must be approved by the deputy superintendent of school support and improvement. If not selected to fill an AP vacancy, you will remain in the pool for a maximum of three years If not selected to fill an ASA vacancy, you must apply for the ASA Pool again next year YOUVE BEEN SELECTED! Length of Tenure: 3 years If you are currently in the AP Pool under the previous requirements, you are not required to meet new requirements. Required to meet new requirements upon renewal AP POOL TENURE

Renewal Requirements After 3 years, all candidates will take 1-year break before reapplying After 3 years in the AP Pool, OHRD or OSSI will conduct an EXIT interview with exiting candidates to help them identify personal leadership experiences to pursue during 1-year break AP POOL RENEWAL

Once eligible to reapply, candidates must: Submit 3 new recommendations Ensure OAT I certification is updated Participate in 1-day refresher FAW Continue to meet standard on all evaluations Interview with Principal/Director Panel if renewing for first time under the new requirements AP POOL RENEWAL AP POOL RENEWAL (continued)

You will be informed in writing by OHRD as to why you were not selected for the AP or ASA Eligibility Pool You may reapply the following year IF YOU ARE NOT SELECTED...

If you did not pass the writing assessment, consider taking a writing class Take FAW, if taken more than three years ago WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR CANDIDACY FOR AP POOL

If recommendations are below standard, make sure you ask for references from those who best know your work. Take OAT I refresher, if taken more than three years ago Assume as many leadership opportunities as possible in preparation for applying to the pool again.
