Repeated types of characters found in literature throughout the world.

The opposite of the villain, the light against the darkness. A character to bring hope to troubled times.

A secondary character that offers constant friendship and support for a major character such as a Hero or Heroine.

A character that lacks experience and exemplifies virtue and purity. Because of the male-dominated nature of most myths, the innocent is often portrayed as the hero’s downfall.

A character that radically rejects the values of a society and the restrictions placed on him or her.

A character that does not feel any connection with a group or any affinity for its members and personally rejects them.

An evil character who exists to cause disorder, confusion, and mayhem on society and to battle against a hero.

A character that consistently supports, protects, and provides for other characters who are unable to look after themselves. He or she cannot defeat the villain, but he/she can provide the hero with the knowledge to do so.

A character that is closely associated with both Nature and Fertility. She may not be the mother of any of the protagonists, but she fills the eternal need. She is the protector of the hero/heroine.

This character cons, deceives, swindles, or cheats other character.
They generally switch back and forth between evil and good, but evil is what motivates them.
