2 Why are we reading fairytales?
Remember, we’re using fairytales as a transition into reading Shakespeare Both fairytales and Shakespeare’s plays include common elements, like symbols, imagery, figurative language, and themes Let’s review those elements of literature with something short and somewhat familiar before we read something longer and more complicated! You’ll show me you understand these elements by writing your own short story or fairytale!! (due Fri. 10/27)

Pick a fairy tale to read (see options) Choose roles (everyone needs at least one role) Leader Time keeper Recorder Questioner Reader(s) Today and tomorrow: read your story and make a SIFT chart (at least three items each!)

10 Fairy Tale Lit Circles Finish reading your fairy tale
Make a SIFT poster to hang in the classroom At least three pieces of evidence from the story for each letter Also make sure to include the title of the fairy tale!

12 Create Your Own Fairy Tale (or short story)
start of class Friday 10/27 Type it!! Also make a SIFT chart for your OWN story Your fairy tale (or short story) MUST INCLUDE: Plot Characters Setting SIFT elements
