Reader’s Notebook Goal: I will use my Reader’s Notebook to help facilitate my comprehension of my novel by completing activities using reading skills and strategies.

Reader’s Notebook Activity Selection for Wednesday 8, 2014
Then, select ONE of the following options: Write about something that surprised you or that you found interesting. Describe an interesting or important character in your book. Describe parts of the book that puzzled you or made you ask questions. In a few sentences, summarize what you have read today. Draw a comic strip or graphic novel page for what you just read. Reader’s Notebook Activity Selection for Tuesday, October 14, 2014
Read during the Reader’s Workshop. Then, select ONE of the following options: Draw 4 objects that represent your reading. Write a sentence for each, telling what each item says about what you’ve been reading. In a few sentences, summarize what you have read today. Make a timeline of events that have occurred in your book so far. Predict what will happen next. Tell me about the main character. What kind of person is he/she? Describe the setting’s time and place. List the clues that helped you identify the setting. Draw it. Reader’s Notebook

Reader’s Notebook Activity Selection for October 15, 2014
Read during the Reader’s Workshop. Then, select ONE of the following options: Describe an interesting or important character. Explore how the main character changed throughout the story. Compare two characters in the book to each other by using a Venn Diagram. Write a diary entry in the voice of a character in your book. Compare a character in your book to a character in another book you have read. After stopping your reading for today, describe an event you predict will happen next. Predict how a character may overcome an obstacle. Define the problem, or main conflict in the story. Reader’s Notebook

Read during the Reader’s Workshop. Then, select ONE of the following options: Create a “Wanted” poster for the antagonist. List three new vocabulary words from your reading. What can you tell about them using context clues? Quote a passage and respond to it. How did it make you feel? Pretend your job is to write magazine ads. Create an ad for what you have been reading. Pretend you are a famous reporter on TV. Write a story about what you’ve read for the evening news. This text relates to my life because… Reader’s Notebook

Read during the Reader’s Workshop. Then, select ONE of the following options: Describe the similarities between the main character and you. Describe your least favorite character and explain why. Describe your most favorite character and why. Draw a comic strip or graphic novel page for what you just read. Draw a line in the center of your paper (about 5 rows on your notebook paper). On the left, write 5 facts from what you read. On the right, write your personal opinions about what you read. Draw a picture for what you just read. Pretend you are a talk show host and two characters are the guests on your show. Which characters would you chose and why? List two questions that you, the host, would ask each character. Pretend you are a friend of one of the characters. Write him or her a letter. Pretend you get to create the music soundtrack for what you’ve been reading. What three songs would you include? Read during the Reader’s Workshop. Then, select TWO of the following options: Describe what was either believable or unbelievable about your reading. Think of a problem that a character had to face. Write the problem and how the character solved it or is working to solve it. If you were that character, what would you do differently? What is your favorite part of the book you’re reading? Why? What has happened so far? What do you think will happen next? What character is like you? Describe how he or she is like you. What are two emotions the main character has felt? What made the main character feel that way? What have you found boring about what you’ve been reading? What made it boring? If you were the author, what would you do to make it more interesting? What is something that you have learned from your reading? Responses should be at a minimum of three sentences. You must include drawings or pictures to help convey your ideas. Reader’s Notebook
