Carver-Scott SHIP Customizable Worksite Wellness Posters: Promoting the policy, systems and environmental changes at your worksite to improve employee health
2
The purpose of the customizable promotional posters is to provide worksites participating in the Carver-Scott SHIP initiative the means to promote the health enhancing opportunities and changes that are occurring in your organization. These posters can be used to encourage employee wellness at your worksite by highlighting new and existing wellness opportunities, promoting existing and new health- focused policies, encouraging healthy eating and physical activity during the day. These posters are customizable. You can add your own organization and contact information, worksite logo, and other specific information to the poster. The posters are in PowerPoint so you can easily modify the size of the text, color, wording/messaging and placement just like you would for creating a presentation. They can be printed in color or in black and white. They are sized to be used effectively as either 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 17. Please note that each poster has a place holder for your organization logo. Delete the Carver-Scott SHIP icon and paste your company logo in the same location. Please keep the MDH/SHIP Vision logo on the posters for the duration of this grant, see page 23 for information on the funding source of this project. We recommend placing the posters where employees gather such as the employee break room, locker rooms, and other high traffic areas. Other areas that the posters will be effective include decision prompt locations such as the elevator (prompting people to use the stairwell instead), vending machines (prompting people to make the healthy choice), and the designated smoking area (encouraging people to quit). We can laminate posters for you, just let us know. We encourage you to make these posters your own by adding your own messaging, prompts and other wellness ideas! Worksites in Carver County can request posters printed in color and laminated by contacting Joy Ahern at 952-361-1329. If you have any technical difficulty or would like assistance with using the posters, please call or email your SHIP worksite contact person and they will be happy to assist you. Background & How to Use the Posters
3
The posters cover five primary topic areas related to the comprehensive worksite wellness intervention. Poster topic areas include: Using area maps around worksite grounds to encourage employees to walk during their breaks (3 posters) Promote physical activity during the work day such as taking the stairs, taking an active break and going for a walking meeting (4 posters) Promote existing worksite health benefit (lactation room, flexible schedule policy, etc) and health plan benefits such as fitness discounts, HRA, etc (3 posters) Promote available tobacco cessation resources (3 posters) Promote heart healthy choices (1 poster) Promote healthy vending and/or catering options (5 posters) For more ideas of poster topic areas, see the notes section at the bottom of the window on each slide Tip: You can use all of the posters at once or use different posters every couple of months, its up to you! To create a map of a walking loop around your worksite: Go to www.gocarvergo.org click on interactive maps and enter TRIP (Trail and Recreation Information Portal). Or you can email info@gocarvergo.org requesting a map of a (10 minute, 15 minute, or 30 minute) walking route around your worksite in Carver County be created for you. Depending on your request, Carver County will attempt to customize a map that includes a walking route, which you can then use on the posters. In Scott County create a walking map on www.googlemaps.com or www.mapmywalk.com and save as a screen shot to place into the poster. For most people, a 1 mile walk will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. GoScottGo, a new active living website, www.goscottgo.com, click on interactive maps and enter the TRIP (Trail and Recreation Information Portal) for another way to create maps. Tip: The map posters can be coupled with the posters that promote physical activity. Instructions & Tips

Carver-Scott SHIP Customizable Worksite Promotional Posters These customizable promotional posters were made possible through funding from the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) of the Minnesota Department of Health. The Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP), an integral part of Minnesotas nation- leading 2008 health reform law, strives to help Minnesotans lead longer, healthier lives by preventing the chronic disease risk factors of tobacco use and exposure, poor nutrition and physical inactivity. SHIP seeks to create sustainable, systemic changes in schools, worksites, communities and health care organizations that make it easier for Minnesotans to incorporate healthy behaviors into their daily lives.
