4 The problem is evident refugee women are experiencing diverse forms of (psychological, physical and sexual) violence in their home countries, during flight and in the host countries. there are victims of violence by males (relatives and/or other refugees) in war zones and – referring to our findings – also by staff in refugee shelters 

5 Ressource for Future Migrants, specially woman embody a great potential for change and productivity. They do not accept stagnation and they are ready for calculated risks. By their belonging to their home countries and the European World the migrants can develop a capacity for cultural diversity as an essential pre-requisite for long-term success in a globalizing world.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a big challenge for populations which are affected by armed conflicts and an increasingly important field of action in view of recent migration flows. Violence against female refugees is likely to become more frequent with the increasing influx of refugees to GER and EU Lack of supportive, cultural sensitive measures to inform and empower refugee women Lack of cooperative networks between refugee women and the support system

17 5. Preliminary results 1. Background and Issues
12 mediator trainings in 10 German federal states (+ 2018: 10) 255 mediators trained 663 information sessions with 7,408 (+ 2018: 800 / ) participants (settings: refugee shelters etc.) 20 information sessions for 254 male refugees (+ 2018: 200 / 2.000) 15 trainings for professionals with 528 participants (+ 2018: 15 / 500) 1 mediator training for male refugees with 18 participants ( / 120) 110,000 multilingual information brochures for refugees printed 3,300 guidebooks for experts printed 2 conferences with around 800 participants

Lessons learned The „MiMi“ key technology is very effective in empowering refugee women Refugee women show great interest in becoming highly motivated actors in the field of GBV prevention It is important and has proven to be very successful to built networks with the support facilities It has been shown that it is crucial and at the same time highly promising to include male refugees in preventive measures
