2 Objectives: Understand the different Career Clusters available for you to choose from Begin the thought process of where you can direct your future

3 Write it down! Imagine that Hazen hosted a career day. What are some careers you would be most interested in learning more about? Identify your top three choices. What makes you interested in these choices? Are these options you think you would seriously consider as a possible career? Explain why or why not.

5 After survey Find the three boxes from Handout 1 that has the highest number when added up Find the correlating clusters on Handout 2 Do you agree with your results? Make sure to read the description of each cluster in order to make the right choice Choose your top three clusters. Are these similar/matching to your survey results?

8 Look it up! Identify two different possible careers from each career cluster you chose (6 total) Begin the initial phases of researching your career choices. What are some questions about this choice you have? By the end of the period, you need to have narrowed your options to no less than 2 careers.

10 Objectives Find some options for post-secondary education/training for those career fields Understand the requirements of your two different career options

11 To do… For both of your career options, do the following..
Complete the School Comparison worksheet (one sheet for EACH career option) Research the job description, required training/education, salary, employment outlook, necessary skills, etc. for each career option… TAKE NOTES! Review all your findings. Think about where you want to live when you graduate. What is your future like? What is your lifestyle like? Consider these things as you choose your top career option.

12 Write it down! Would you rather be in a job or career where you get to sit all day in a warm, comfortable environment? OR, would you prefer to have an outdoor-type job that allowed you to move around and take advantage of the outdoor setting? In addition, identify two pros and two cons of each type of potential job or career.

How do I target my resume for the company I’m applying for? What are my skills, accomplishments, education, goals, etc.? Know the position… What are the desired qualifications? Key values? Job Duties?

Clarify the position for which you are applying for. Enable you to highlight your strengths. Ask an employer to take action.

28 Cover Letter Writing Tips
Your cover letter should be job-centered not self-centered. The cover letter should be 1 page maximum. Use regular business letter format. Always address the letter to a specific person, not “To Whom It May Concern.” Research the name of the contact person or hiring manager. You may use, “To the Hiring Manager” or “To the Selection Committee Chairperson” if needed. Proofread and check your letter for proper grammar.
